Professional History

Terry Shiels is an award-winning, Canadian-born, television producer/director, best known for travel-oriented productions that promote an active outdoor lifestyle.

For eight years, Terry explored the world creating adventure sports, travel, human interest and nature programming. During that period Terry accumulated 36 national producer credits for the highly successful nationally syndicated PM MAGAZINE

.

He has created features on world class surfing in Hawaii, paragliding in the Swiss Alps, swimming with sharks in Tahiti, and trekking the world's deepest canyon in Peru.

Then, for three years Terry brought his skills closer to home producing and hosting CAROLINA CAMERA and CAROLINA OUTDOORS, human interest television feature segments broadcast in North and South Carolina on WBTV and distributed regionally and nationally by CBS, CONUS Satellite Network and The Carolina News Network.

 

In 1994 and 1995, Terry was the Associate Producer of WBTV's Carolina Panthers' Unit, creators of THE DOM CAPERS SHOW, PANTHERS GAME DAY, and INSIDE PANTHERS FOOTBALL.

These weekly shows, broadcast throughout the Carolinas, chronicle the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

 

In 1996, Terry's first full-length documentary, "Plight of the Futaleufu", was broadcast across the United States on PBS. Through SHIELS PRODUCTIONS, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Terry dedicates the full range of his broadcast and production experience to working with his clients in a diverse range of industries.
       

An experienced triathlete, skier, kayaker, scuba diver and rock climber, Terry does not live vicariously. He has skydived from 14,000 feet and has scuba dived with the manatee.

He is a competitive distance runner, master's swimmer, and a category three USCF licensed bicycle racer who has participated in numerous multi-sport events including Germany's European Ironman Championships and the Hawaii Ironman World Triathlon Championships. A long time Team USA member, Terry has completed numerous ITU long distance world championships including Denmark ’05, Australia ’06 and France ’07. His work is an extension of his lifestyle.

 

Through television and video production, Terry continuously expresses to the world his commitment to travel, the environment and a life fulfilled by outdoor adventure and athletic play.

Since 1998, Shiels Productions with The North Carolina Zoo, has produced The Zoo Filez. This award winning television series, seen by 400,000 viewers each week, is carried by ten broadcast stations and two cable systems across North Carolina. The Zoo Filez has traveled from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the jungles of Uganda to spread an earth friendly message of conservation and to invite viewers to appreciate the beauty of nature at the North Carolina Zoo.
