Paragliding Medellin

It’s humanities oldest dream, to fly like a bird. Everyday, above Medellin Colombia, it’s a dream come true. Medellin’s elevation famously results in a perpetual Spring-like atmosphere. Thermal air currents make elevator-like pillars of air, so paragliding here is unique in all the world.

N.C. ZOO TELEVISION SERIES WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD

ASHEBORO—“The Zoo FileZ,” a syndicated weekly television series produced by the North Carolina Zoo, has received a top international award for outstanding broadcast programming.

The zoo series has been named a Gold Medal winner in the 2012 Marcom Awards, an international competition recognizing outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals. The program was selected for the prestigious award from among more than 6,000 entries from the U.S., Canada and several other countries. Entries came from public relations firms, design shops, television production companies and Fortune 500 corporate marketing departments as well as freelancers.

The Marcom Awards are administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), an international organization consisting of several thousand creative professionals. According to an AMCP news release, “Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose work exceeds a high standard of excellence and who serve as a benchmark for the industry.”

“The Zoo FileZ” recently completed its 15th year of production. The series airs on 12 broadcast stations in North Carolina’s largest television markets as well as the “On Demand” channel on all Time Warner Cable systems in the state. The series can also be viewed on the zoo’s “Youtube” site at www.youtube.com/nczoo. The two-minute videos feature the N.C. Zoo, its staff, animal and plant collections, special events, wildlife conservation and education programs.

“The Zoo FileZ” is written and co-produced by N.C. Zoo Public Relations Manager Rod Hackney, who also serves as on-camera host for the program. Director of photography and co-producer for the series is Terry Shiels with editing by David Woodruff, both of Shiels Productions in Charlotte.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Dee A. Freeman, Secretary; Beverly E. Perdue, Governor.
